BellaLuz had a great start to the new year with Scott and Meaghan at their beautiful old town wedding at the Immaculate Conception Church. The wedding was quaint, yet perfect with close family and friends attending. Old town is such an amazing place to photograph and a beautiful wedding location. Old town is the oldest settled area in San Diego, it gave us an amazing photo opportunity at every corner. The reception was held at Coronado Golf Course with the band Slower, that got the party jumping all night! The couple was electric on the dance floor making memories to last a life time! Capturing the Armstrong wedding was an absolute perfect way to finish off 2014 with a bang! These lovebirds were stunning! Their ceremony was at the beautiful Mary Star of the Sea Church in La Jolla. Formal portraits were taken into the sunset at La Jolla Cove. The wedding party then rode in style, cruising the streets of La Jolla in a vintage white Cescaphe trolly. The lovely bride and groom, and all of their wonderful guests took over the entire hotel and restaurant at Tower 23 & JRDN in Pacific Beach for an exclusive reception and an all night party that will never be forgotten. I had an amazing time with the Mueller & Armstrong family. I know this true love will last a lifetime!

Amanda and Ryan

The Mueller’s have been clients and friends for over 8 years, so naturally I was excited to hear that Amanda and Ryan were tying the knot. Ryan proposed on the beach in Southern California, with friends and family nearby. This tight-knit family knows how to have a good time, so I imagine the celebration that followed was one for the books.

We decided the Salk institute in La Jolla would be a fun place to shoot their engagement session. We spent an hour touring the grounds, then headed to the beach for sunset. Amanda and Ryan were naturals in front of the camera, and their love for each other was apparent.

The wedding will take place in November, at Mary Star of the Sea in La Jolla. Without a doubt, a rockin’ party will follow at the infamous Tower 23 in Pacific beach. Congrats to the newly engaged couple! Here are a few images from their shoot…

Meet Sarah and Tommy Crudo, we had a blast shooting their La jolla Seaside Forum wedding in San Diego, California. Anthony and I were honored to capture such a special time in their lives. It was such a wonderful opportunity to watch my childhood friend tie the knot and I am excited for the future to watch them grow as a couple and family. With the threat of rain, the storm had passed and we ended up with the most beautiful beach sunset filled with dramatic clouds and striking colors to serve as the background for their big day.

We recently had the honor of shooting the 2013 San Diego Central District Lifeguard Team in Mission Beach. This Shot was Taken at Tower 13 next to Belmont Park just after sunrise. Despite the early rise, energy was high, and everyone had a great time. As local San Diego surfers, Anthony and I have always appreciated all the hard work and committed service from these everyday heroes. We look forward to working with them again.

I’ve known Cody Swanson for a few years and was so happy when I heard of his engagement to his high school sweetheart, Cynthia. They grew up together as good family friends, making their story movie-perfect. Cynthia spent her childhood being teased by Cody and his buddies, but years later, their schoolyard crush blossomed into a beautiful relationship.

Their wedding was one of my favorites this year, from the rustic, chic décor to the tight knit family and friendship shared by the guests. I felt honored to be a part of the perfect day. So happy for the newlyweds!

Jillian & Shane's Summer Wedding

My sister Diana introduced us to Jillian. Lucky for us, we could not have asked for better clients. During our first consultation, we learned that Shane and Jillian were game for anything, which allowed us to get creative during their sessions.

The wedding took place at Maderas golf club in Poway near San Diego. Although it was extremely hot, everyone had a blast and was eager to see this awesome couple tie the knot. The highlight of the night was when the wedding party performed a flash mob dance after the grand entrance. There wasn’t a dull moment the whole night! All the love from friends and family radiated during the reception, and the dance floor didn’t skip a beat.

Best wishes to the two newly weds! We had a blast capturing all the love you shared with each other and your amazing friends and family.

We had a great time getting to know Ben and Whitney this past summer. We happened to shoot their engagement session in La jolla during one of the best sunsets all summer and their wedding day was spent on the beautiful grounds at Ponte winery in Temecula. The ceremony was perched in front of Ponte winery's lake which gave friends and family a cool breeze on one of the warmest days all summer. The ceremony was followed up with cocktails and dinner inside the unique barrel room. Great food, family and friends...What more could you ask for, another perfect wedding in wonderful San Diego.

Tiffany & Tommy's Hawaiian Wedding

I've known Tiffany and Tommy for about ten years now. We all used to work at Sushi on the Rock in La Jolla back in the day. I was so excited when they asked if I would photograph their wedding on Hawaii's Big Island. I had never been to the Big Island but I have spent quite a bit of time shooting and working on a few of the other Hawaiian Islands. Their wedding was filled with so much romance and love. Tiffany looked absolutely stunning! Wedding coordinator, Malia Bolton, did such a great job as well making sure the days timeline went super smooth. Tommy and Sarah’s engagement session was at Balboa Park on a busy Saturday afternoon. At first we were a little nervous, thinking it would be near impossible to capture intimate moments of the couple with so many park visitors. Natalie and Bobby have to be one of the nicest couple we've ever met. These two are simply made for each other! We shot their engagement session in the village area of La Jolla and finished off with a few shots at a nearby park and beach. An added bonus was getting a few images of the both of them on Bobby's new motorcycle. I'm not going to lie, Danny and I were both a little jealous of that thing;). Travis and I have been good friends for more than 15 years. It all started when I was his personal surf videographer in high school, so it only made sense that Anthony and I would photograph his big day. The ceremony took place on Imperial Beach, Travis’ favorite surf spot. Their wedding was small, simple, intimate, and perfect. Tara looked stunning and her contagious smile made for incredible photos. We were honored to capture Travis and Tara’s big day, and we know they will forever be happy together.

Anthony and I shot Jillian and Shane’s engagement session at Seaport Village a few months back. Shane is a jet plane mechanic so naturally we started the session on the USS Midway. From there, we captured other unique shots around Seaport Village. It was a crowded weekend day so we were attracting attention from the many visiting tourists. At one point, there were about 10 foreigners taking photos of our production. They must of thought Jillian and Shane were famous! My good friend Larry has a new lady in his life! Lilly Jane Kraus was brought into this world on February 1, 2013. Spending a day with the new happy parents, Larry and Jenny, was exciting and inspiring. It was both a challenge and a pleasure to shoot Lilly Jane in her first weeks of life. Let me tell you, getting perfect shots of a newborn baby is no easy feat. Anytime she wasn’t swaddled tightly in her parents’ arms she was not a happy girl, and she would tell us about it! It was hard work, but we captured some great shots followed by some well-deserved cocktails on the front porch. Looking forward to many more photo sessions with Lilly Jane. Ben and Whitney recently contacted BellaLuz to shoot their summer wedding in Temecula. To start things off right, they decided to do the engagement session in La Jolla, a place very near and dear to their hearts. We spent a portion of the engagement shoot in the shopping district near Prospect Street, then we headed down to the beach near La Jolla Cove. Fortunately for us, we scored one of the best sunsets this year, along with an extremely low tide that uncovered a blanket of colorful moss on the rocks. These factors made for some bright and dramatic images that we were all very pleased with.

Ben and Whitney were naturals in front of the camera. We enjoyed being a part of their engagement excitement, and we are looking forward to capturing their big day this June!

Cody and Cynthia, high school sweethearts, are getting married in July. A few months back we shot their “Save the Date”, but it left them wanting more. We decided to head to Poway Park for the remainder of their engagement photos, and we could not be more pleased with the finished product. Poway Park provided colorful and contrasting scenery, while Cody and Cynthia were fun and beautiful subjects. It is always a pleasure working with them, and we look forward to shoot their wedding this summer!

Becky & Rob's Wedding at Mondo Cellars

On October 9^th I had the last minute opportunity to shoot Becky and Rob’s wedding in the beautiful wine country of Central California. I was originally invited as my girlfriend’s plus one, but things fell through with the scheduled second shooter, so I was asked to fill in. Although it was a last minute gig, things couldn’t have gone smoother. The sun was shining, the bride was stunning, the wine was flowing and her bridesmaids arrived in cowboy boots ready for a full night of dancing. Both the ceremony and reception were at Mondo Cellars in Paso Robles. With beautiful views of rolling hills and vineyards by day and gorgeous white lights strung overhead by night, the whole experience was perfect. Makin' It Rain!

We love to do conceptualized photography. It gives us an opportunity to make the most of our equipment and photography skills. When Cody and Cynthia came to us with a save the date card concept we got really excited to put it all together. The concept started out with Cody handing his fiancé, Cynthia, a credit card while he was chilling on the couch watching a football game. We started building on the idea, trying to make it a little more exciting and giving it a little more life. So, we brought a wad of cash to the shoot. We tried several images with cody handing Cynthia the cash but decided that it would really give the image more expression if he threw it over her ( ie: made it rain:). Both Cody and Cynthia did such a great job with expressions during this shoot. We can't wait to photograph their wedding in July!

The Taylor Family

Our friends, Wes and Tiffany, had some family come to town recently and they called us up to shoot some family portraits of three generations of Taylors. We love shooting large families. There is something very cool about seeing three generations of a family all together at once. The older I get the more I realize these things can be difficult to make happen, especially if some of the family lives in other parts of the country. We met down at the beach in Del Mar during the late afternoon. We had to work a little quick with this shoot as the tide was coming in fast. Near the end of the shoot pretty much everyone had their pant legs wet. We had a really fun time getting a couple of the kids to look at the camera in the beginning. Those kids were hammin' it up though by the end. -Anthony

Monica & Anthony's Wedding

It's not everyday a photographer asks you to shoot his wedding. When my good friend and business partner, Anthony, asked me to do the job, there was no hesitation. Sure, you miss out on the whole guest experience, but I was honored that he wanted me behind the lens.

Anthony told me they wanted to get married in the Catholic church, so I introduced him to my good buddy Deacon Mike Daniels. He is a genuine person, amazing father, and great husband- the perfect person to marry Monica and Anthony.

The wedding ceremony at The Founders Chapel on the USD campus was beautiful. The make-up artist from Brides By Brittany was phenomenal. Monica looked stunning! All the bridesmaids were gorgeous. Ant and the groomsmen didn't look half bad either...

The reception was held at The Darlington House in La Jolla. The wedding coordinator, Krystel, and her staff from Couture Events were excellent, and everything went off without a hitch. Anthony's extremely talented sister, Tiffany, did all the floral arrangements and created the unique detail elements. I was obsessed with the sweet treats table strewn with assorted candies and crazy delicious donut holes baked up by Ken at VG Donuts in Cardiff!! Great eats by Personal touch catering . Just ask my assistant, he went back for thirds.

It was fun to see my boy Chris Cote behind the mic. He did a great job getting the reception party started. Everyone was on their feet and the dance floor was packed. I can't wait to see what the talented video guys at Co Creative Media have up their sleeve. I've been working with Breton Carasso for the last year, and he's always pushing his creative limits in the video world.

Drybar Photo Session

Not only did he smile more than just about any baby I've ever seen, he didn't cry once during the whole photo session. He's just a happy kid! I'm sure it has a lot to do with his amazing parents. Cam and Marla are friends of mine and are some of the nicest people around. If you enjoy great food and wine you should definitely check out Cam's restaurant Counterpoint in Golden Hill.

Margo & Mike's Maternity Session

Margo and Mike are some of my oldest friends. I was so excited to find out that they were going to be having a little girl and I was going to have the opportunity to shoot their maternity photos. We spent our session down near Windansea Beach during the sunset to capture this amazing time in their life. Margo looked so great and truly had a glow about her. I love these two people!

Savannah's Portrait Session

I did a little weekend trip up to Ojai to visit my family for the weekend a couple weeks ago. My niece, Savannah, is finishing up high school there. It was a beautiful weekend all wrapped up with a quick little portrait session with Savannah in her backyard. Nicole & Scott's Wedding

Scott and Nicole have been friends for a very long time. I met Scott back in 1991 during our stint at San Diego State University. Fond memories include watching him surf Blacks in cutoff denim jeans, rocking the house at The Red Onion as front man for his band FLUX and acting as Master of Ceremony during the annual Who’s the Hotshot surf contest in South Mission Beach. Nicole is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. Nicole works as a nurse here in San Diego. Together, Scott and Nicole love dirt bike riding and have done several trips down the Baja Peninsula on dusty back roads. They got married in Del Mar, California on September 9th. The ceremony was held on the beach and the reception was right next door to their house only steps away. Congratulations to both of them. They are an amazing couple! -Anthony

Steve And Kelli got married Last November 6^th at the Karl Strauss Brewing Co in San Diego. It turns out there is a beautiful Japanese garden smack dab in the middle of the business district in Sorrento Valley. Kiri & Brian's Engagement Session

Brian(BY) and Kiri have been friends with my fiance, Monica, since high school. We were thrilled when they invited us up to San Francisco for the weekend to take in the city and shoot their engagement photos. We had a blast driving around Napa on the first day. We shot a few photos at Domaine Carneros, where BY had proposed to Kiri on the balcony overlooking the vineyard. Afterwards, we drove around stopping at whim on a few locations to shoot some more images of them amongst the flower fields and vineyards in Napa. Later that night we headed downtown for dinner, but not before making a quick stop to Chinatown for a few more fun images. Dinner at the A16 was amazing that night. Still feeling the creative juices flowing, as well as the wine, we headed to the Oakland Bay Bridge for one last shot with some recently acquired sparklers from Chinatown. Still feeling the bug to shoot more photos, I convinced BY and Kiri to shoot one more place the next morning before we had to head home to San Diego. We cruised down to Baker Beach on the southwest side of the Golden Gate Bridge and got some nice images of them walking up the sand on one of the most beautiful days of the winter. Thanks again to BY and Kiri for inviting us to come to their city. What an amazing trip!!

Mare & Chris's Wedding

Chris and Mare are my good friends from Pacific Beach. I met Chris surfing the shores of San Diego in 1998. We not only shared a passion for the ocean but had many mutual friends. Being the fun outgoing guy he is I knew his wedding would be one to remember. The Cadam Family Session

Scott and Jen Cadam have been friends of ours for quite a while. We surf with Scott on a regular basis and Jen is the mastermind creative behind our logo and branding. She does amazing work! Scott was really interested in getting some different types of images of his family. Most everyone does the beach and Scott was hoping for a more “city vibe”. We met Scott, Jen and their son, Kale down by Petco Park for the shoot. What a fun family to work with are. Kale was a bit nervous at first but warmed up quick and had a great time posing in the middle of the street for us, even with his shoes off. You can take the boy out of the beach but you definitely can’t take the beach outta the boy. Here are a few images from our session.

Lisa & Danny Engagement Session

Danny and Lisa are long time friends of ours in San Diego. In fact, Danny and Anthony were old roommates prior to Lisa and Danny moving in together about two years ago. It was very easy to bring out the best of them during their engagement shoot down in South Mission Beach. We, unfortunately, will not be shooting their wedding as Danny will be out of town and Anthony will be one of the groomsmen. He’s very excited to celebrate their wedding in April!
